A genogram is a visual family map that can help portray
multigenerational family patterns and dysfunction such as medical and health problems, alcohol and drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse, mental illness, trauma and abandonment. It can also uniquely depict specific details
about relationships such as: distance and cut-offs, abuse, incest or unhealthy boundaries. Genograms can show
multiple partners, births, abortions, miscarriages or other patterns of reproduction.

They can be simple or complex and portray whatever
germaine issues are pertinent to your case, i.e. gang membership, culture, immigration, or racism.
